Spin-Off Jobs?

Mike Doyle, the 14th Congressional Representative was recently bemoaning conservatives’ criticism of the jobs bill in a WPXI news report.
The story reported the following:
In Pittsburgh's 14th Congressional District, it costs $605,000 per job.
But Democratic Congressman Mike Doyle, who represents the 14th District, contends that's not a fair comparison. Doyle said the job estimates are conservative and he said they don't take into account all of the spin-off jobs.
"They are going to say,'Gee that's only a thousand jobs but you spent $100 millions,' and make it sound ridiculous. But the reality of this is the spin-off jobs. Two million Americans would not be working today if it were not for the stimulus," said Doyle.
It is ridiculous that the public is supposed to believe "spin-off jobs" amount to two million jobs as a direct result of the stimulus. What fact substantiates this number?  Unemployment still remains historically high (10%) and the jobs that have been created or invented have come at an extremely high cost.  President Obama had said the unemployment rate would not exceed 8%.  It is time to stop making up numbers and provide the American public with real proof of the government's efforts to help the economy.
Private enterprise is the most efficient at job creation. Private business hires workers where they are needed and the business has a chance to succeed. The government has no such track record. Government needs to get out of the way of small business and let small businesses revitalize our economy.
